Waves are a fundamental mechanism for conveying information in many physical problems. In this project we are developing visualization and analysis
techniques for extracting wave behavior from data. We have developed a robust technique for extracting wave structure from data sets by calculating
wave subspaces using KL decomposition. If a wave subspace contains a substantial portion of the data set energy during a
particular time interval, the trajectories of the data set within this subspace form a caricature of data set wave structure. Reconstruction in this
subspace provides an auxiliary data set that can be used for comparative visualizations. We explore visualization strategies based on wave subspaces and
illustrates their use with data from experimental measurements, numerical simulations and synthesized models of waves. We also explore visualization and
analysis of timing in waves.
