PhysiologyMorphologyMorphology of a subpial cell: A subpial cell was filled with Neurobiotin. The cell was visualized using infrared microscopy and recorded in current clamp using conventional patch clamp methods. The inset figure is a sketch of the cell as seen in a cortical slice following histochemistry. It was located just lateral to the boundary of the lateral (DL) and medial (DM) parts of visual cortex in layer 1. The main part of the figure shows the soma, dendrites and axon of the cell as reconstructed with a camera lucida. ![]() Response PhysiologyPhysiology of a subpial cell: The responses of the cell above to intrasomatic current injections are displayed for different amplitudes. Each injection had a duration of 1 sec; current amplitudes varied from -0.06 to +0.01 nA. Voltage responses to hyperpolarizing pulses are shown in the left column; depolarizing pulses are shown in the right column. The response to the . 0.01 hyperpolarizing pulses is an average re- sponse that was used to constrain the membrane parameters of a model cell. Responses to current pulses with amplitudes of > 0.02 nA, characterize the cell.s firing properties. ![]() |
